Autumn term · September & October
Autumn is one of the most magical seasons in the woods, and September and October are the perfect months for a school trip. Picture crackling campfires, cosy evenings of singalongs and campfire stories, and hot chocolate under the stars. Our autumn school trips give students hands-on bushcraft experiences that build confidence, teamwork and a real connection with nature, right at the start of the school year.
Our Year 7 Induction Trips are 3-day autumn residentials designed exclusively to help new students settle in, make friends and start secondary school with confidence. Trips run at our 4 woodland camps in Kent, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire and Hertfordshire.
Year 7 transition trips
Starting secondary school is a big step. Our Year 7 transition trips take students out of the classroom and into situations where they solve problems together, look out for each other and discover strengths they didn’t know they had. By the end, your new Year 7s are well on their way to becoming a strong, supportive year group.
Shared challenges help pupils from different primary schools bond naturally, reducing anxiety and creating positive friendship groups from the first half term.
Students get to know their peers and teachers in a relaxed setting, so they return to school settled and ready to learn.
For many pupils this is their first time away from home. Looking after their belongings and taking on daily responsibilities builds resilience from day one.
No queues, no shared activity areas and no other schools. With a private woodland village to yourselves, the whole programme centres on your students.
Team challenges develop the communication, problem-solving and teamwork students need to thrive.
Screen-free time in the woods lets pupils relax, stay active and reset before the term ahead.
Many of our schools return year after year, and students still talk about their induction trip when they leave in Year 11.
Ready to give your Year 7s the best start?
The fun starts the moment you step off the coach.
Every trip is led by our experienced Tribe Leaders and tailored to your students’ ages and goals. Popular autumn bushcraft activities include:
Students are put into groups with classmates before the trip and stay in cosy bell tents on your own private camp, complete with a central yurt and a real campfire to gather round in the evenings.
Teachers stay in bell tents too, with real beds for a good night’s sleep, plus their own dedicated teacher area: a quiet space to relax (and catch your breath from all the fun), stocked with tea, coffee and fresh snacks every day.
We think teachers deserve looking after too!
Start the day with a big cooked breakfast, or cereal and fruit. Lunches include tomato pasta, sweet and sour beef noodles and wraps, and in the evenings students can make their own woodfired pizzas, enjoy a BBQ or tuck into pasta bolognese.
We cater for all dietary requirements and will work with you ahead of the trip to make sure everyone is looked after.

Autumn term residentials
Autumn brings seasonal learning you simply can’t get in summer. Students discover how the forest prepares for winter and see first-hand how nature adapts to the changing seasons.
Earlier sunsets mean campfire evenings, night walks and stargazing.
With highs of 18–21°C in September, almost identical to June’s 19–22°C, an autumn trip offers the same comfortable weather as summer.*
Autumn sits outside the busy summer-term residential season, so you’ll often have more choice of dates.

Our autumn bushcraft programmes support learning across the curriculum:
Seasonal change, life cycles, habitats and decomposition
Woodland ecosystems and map skills
Resilience, communication and teamwork
Shelter design and natural materials
Plus we can adapt any programme, including for SEND students.
All our camp team members are enhanced DBS checked, plus every camp has a Designated Safeguarding Lead and trained first aider on site. Every trip also comes with full risk assessments to support your educational visits paperwork.
We’re proud to hold the LOtC Quality Badge and the AAIAC Adventuremark. We’re also RoSPA accredited and members of BAPA (British Activity Providers Association). These recognised standards cover safety, quality and learning, so you can book with confidence.

“As a teacher who has been on many residential trips, I can confidently say this has been the best I have ever experienced. It was an amazing 3 days – the staff were incredible with our students and ensured everyone (including teachers) was having a great time. The camp was extremely well organised – thank you to our leader, Dixie. The children had so much fun doing all the activities and absolutely adored the tribe leaders, Harvey, Alex and Emily. We had regular check-ins to ensure we had everything we needed, including lots of good food and snacks. I would 100% recommend for any school to do a trip here!”
“Went on a School trip to this site and thought that there was plenty to keep our students busy throughout the day and early evening. We were looked after so well by Pip, Tyler, Boyd and Andrew. They were great with the students and were more than willing to help them. They created a fantastic atmosphere throughout. The fact that when we left the students were wanting their signatures just showed what impression they left on them. Thank you for an amazing 3 days away. Hopefully we cross paths if we are back.”

We’ll send you a full kit list after booking, along with a Parent & Teacher Guide to a Bushcraft School Residential. We always recommend waterproofs, warm layers, sturdy footwear etc. so students can make the most of every adventure in the woods.
