Bushcraft is all about self-sufficiency, survival skills, and teamwork.

Here are a few ways to get students excited and ready:

Spend Time Outdoors

Encourage students to get comfortable in nature before their trip:
🌲 Go for woodland walks and learn to identify different trees and plants.
🌦 Adapt to different weather by spending time outside in the sun, wind, and rain.
👣 Practice walking with a backpack to get used to carrying their kit.

Teamwork & Problem-Solving Challenges

Bushcraft is about working together, so start building teamwork skills early:
🧩 Group Puzzles – Develop problem-solving skills.
🏗 Build a Shelter Together – Using sticks, tarps, or even chairs and blankets indoors!
🔍 Scavenger Hunts – Get students curious about the natural world.

✅ Weather-Appropriate Clothing

Layers are crucial! Pack warm jumpers, a waterproof jacket, and quick-drying trousers. Avoid jeans as they hold moisture when wet. Bring extra waterproofs if the weather looks wet.

✅ Sturdy Footwear

A good pair of walking boots with ankle support is essential. Also, pack a spare pair of trainers for downtime or if boots get wet.

✅ Sleeping Gear

A warm sleeping bag (suitable for the season) and a roll mat for insulation and comfort.

✅ Personal Items

A refillable water bottle, torch (with spare batteries), toothbrush, and toiletries. Keep it simple and travel-sized!

✅ SPF and Sun Protection

If the weather looks sunny, pack sun cream, a hat, and sunglasses to protect from UV exposure.

✅ Bug Spray

Protect against midges and mosquitos with an effective insect repellent.

✅ Extra Layers

The temperature can drop quickly in the evening. Pack extra jumpers, thermal tops, and thick socks.

🚫 Valuables

Expensive jewellery, electronics, or designer items are not suitable for camp. Items can easily get lost or damaged in the outdoors.

🚫 Phones & Tablets

Encourage a digital detox! The focus is on connecting with nature, teamwork, and personal development, so leave the tech at home.

🚫 Sugary Snacks & Sweets

We provide balanced, nutritious meals, and sugary snacks can disrupt energy levels.

🚫 Aerosols

Stick to roll-on deodorant and sprays that are safe for the environment.
