Is your child going on a Bushcraft adventure with their school? Find out everything you’ll need to know before you attend a parent talk.
School residentials are a valuable opportunity for learning, growth and development. Taking children out of the classroom and into new exciting environments is the perfect way to challenge them in a fun and relaxed manner. Promoting new ways of thinking, teamwork and boosting confidence, residential trips build on skills learnt in school and prepare children for the future.
We cater for dietary requirements including vegans, vegetarians and allergies. We know that some children are very particular about what they eat and if the meals on offer don’t suit them we can provide an alternative.
Fussy eaters are not catered to on an individual basis but we will endeavour to find something for them to eat on camp. In the event of a student declining a particular dish, a plain alternative of pasta, rice, vegetables and/or potatoes will be offered. There are also tasty snacks throughout the day!
Please ensure all the information is on the dietary and medical forms you will be asked to fill in by the school before the trip.
On a Bushcraft camp the students will sleep in single sex tent groups, in our large safari-style bell tents. Two members of our staff will always be on duty throughout the night and will be located at a central point on the camp with a lantern for visibility. They will also help with the bedtime and morning routine.
All our bell tents are custom made, with a canvas inner and a waterproof cover, so students will stay warm and dry. Spare blankets will be available if the weather turns cold. School teachers will sleep in allocated Teacher Tents, within viewing distance of the students.
You can view the full kit list, but the key essentials are a sleeping bag, roll mat, a raincoat, and any toiletries and/or medication. Remember the students will be out in the wild, so it’s best to pack old clothes and shoes so it doesn’t matter if they get muddy!
There’s a whole host of activities available on our Bushcraft Camps; Fire Lighting, Shelter Building, Camouflage and Concealment, Target Sports, Scenario SOS to name a few! All our activities encourage team building and give students the chance to develop new skills and interact with their peers in a fun, creative environment. Students will work in “Tribes”, small, mixed gender groups to carry out their activities, these are allocated by the school. Each ‘Tribe’ will be assigned a Tribe Leader, who will look after the group for the duration of the trip.
All staff are required to pass enhanced DBS checks, and also have a great deal of experience of working on camps of this kind. Every staff member receives extensive in-house training, as well as obtaining qualifications from national governing bodies for specialised activities, including archery and swimming. There are multiple first aid trained members at each estate, and our Field Cooks have food hygiene certificates. Throughout the year our staff are regularly monitored, and we have a full time Safeguarding officer on hand to ensure that every child is kept safe.
