At The Bushcraft Company, every member of the team is driven to make our school trips the very best experiences they can be. Whether it’s learning how to light a campfire for the first time, building up the courage to sleep in a self-built shelter, or developing a new level of independence and resilience, we relish the moments of excitement, amazement, pride, independence and resilience that our school trips offer young people.
All roles are based in our fantastic woodland locations, which our bushcrafters call home throughout our May-October season. Our staff work together, as a part of a close-knit team, towards a shared goal; to make our school trips unforgettable. Working across several UK woodland and activity centers, from Yorkshire to Kent, our outdoor jobs are all about a love of adventure, teaching and the great outdoors!
Your role is to take one of the “Tribes” of students through the many exciting activities, ranging from fire lighting to archery to survival SOS scenarios. We’ll teach you everything you need to know for the safe running of the activities whilst ensuring our high standards of quality and care are maintained.
This role involves management of a team of Tribe Leaders as they deliver our exciting programme of activities to our students; as well as the day-to-day running of camp. If you’ve got the leadership skills, then we’ll teach you all you need to know for the safe running of camp to our high standards of quality and care.
Each estate has a central camp kitchen where hearty, delicious meals are created for the students, teachers and your colleagues. Cooking over gas burners and fire, you’ll cook meals including things like cooked breakfasts, pasta bolognaise and vegetable curry. We’ll provide all the recipes and training, including an externally accredited Food Hygiene certificate.
Our Assistant Chefs create our delicious concoctions and serve them to our tribes, while our Head Chefs lead the team and are responsible for ensuring hygiene regulations and safety checks are adhered to.
Known as “Runners”, our Estate Logistics team are crucial in bringing our adventures to life and ensuring our beautiful woodland camps are maintained. You’ll ensure that our Teams in the woods have everything they need to deliver the Bushcraft experience; ensuring all equipment, food and resources are present and correct on camp.
It’s a physical job; loading and unloading the ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) with supplies and whisking them off to camp, but it’s a vital one – providing key support between the Estate Manager & Coordinators and the teams out on camp. You’ll also support the Maintenance Coordinator in ensuring all our camps are running in tip-top shape.
From inspiring the next generation to a passion for the outdoors, find out what our Bushcraft Camp leaders love about the role.
“Staff were professional, empathetic yet very relaxed in their delivery and relationship building with pupils. The atmosphere that was created in camp was really awesome!”
There is nothing better than watching children run wild and connect with nature. Every day is so varied and exciting. It can start by singing a song while serving breakfast and lead on to creating a magical woodland shelter with sticks and mud. The role really lets your imagination run wild and allows you to see children grow and open up to new experiences. One of my favourite parts of the job is encouraging an initially shy and timid child transform to a mud covered woodland creature running through the woods, living the dream, by the end of their stay. The Bushcraft Company truly gives children an opportunity to learn in a different format from the traditional school curriculum. This supports children who might struggle elsewhere to really excel and realise their potential. It allows those high energy children a place to vent and be loud without feeling out of place. For me the woods has always been a somewhere I feel most comfortable and the ability to show that to the next generation is extremely fulfilling for me. I absolutely love this job and the opportunities it gives me every day.”
